Monster What?????

Yes – I heard Tye correctly. We were headed to a Monster Truck show featuring Grave Digger – apparently a VERY big deal.

We actually had a GREAT time! You definitely should go if you have a chance. So so fun. And if you think I’m exaggerating, check out the joy on Dylan’s face.

Pure bliss I tell you. Bliss……..

At the end of the night, Dylan got to choose a prize. He, of course, chose to get a Grave Digger flag – apparently he’s now a true fan.

Dog Days…….

Everyday, on the way home from work, I help Lucy achieve nirvana by letting her stick her head out of the car window. She has to wait until we get to our neighborhood and I’m not driving at freeway speeds.

Legoland – August 2009

As part of our annual San Diego beach trip, Tye and I took Dylan to Legoland. Dylan loves Legos and is an expert engineer! There are some amazing creations throughout the park - the grandeur of which can’t be captured in pictures but I tried. Every detail of the sculptures below is created with a Lego. Oh to be a Lego inventor.......

Dylan’s 6th Birthday Celebration

Dylan was born on the 4th of July. This means that his birthday celebration usually has to come on another day. With all of the parades, family traditions and general festivities, it seems more fun to carve out a special time to celebrate sometime after the holiday.

This year, Tye and I took Dylan to Lagoon. For those of you unfamiliar with this Utah amusement park, just know that it’s a local rendition of a carnival – or so I thought. Needless to say, I was nervous to spend the afternoon there. Much to my surprise, the park was much more fun and manageable than I thought possible.

We had a great afternoon/evening. Dylan was in bliss.

After the Dinosaur Drop, we braved the Jumping Dragon. I almost threw up. Seriously…….

Of course before we went to Lagoon, we had to have cake!

And presents!

Who knows how we’ll be able to top ourselves next year!

Summer Blooms

I think I’ve mentioned this before: I LOVE GARDENING!!! Once I know it’s finally safe to start planting, I’m out in the yard pretending to have a green thumb. I love the poppy. Their color and shape always makes me happy. These come back year after year. I so look forward to their blooms!

My childhood was full of all things Barbie. I think this toy was part of sparking my childhood imagination. My sisters and I had large collections that kept us quite busy. Perhaps this is also where I got my passion for shoes. Barbie always had the best shoes!

So, because she was such a positive for me, I wanted to take a moment to say Happy Birthday!!!! Barbie made her debut on March 9th, 1959 making this her 50th year. What a gal!

Catch - Up: Fall 2

Tye and I went to San Francisco and Napa Valley at the end of October for some meetings and a dinner party. As much as I love Utah in the Fall (see below) there is something great about Napa in the Fall too.

Whenever I travel, I always try to pick out something unique to the area to remember. In the town of St. Helena a Halloween enthusiast resides. Apparently every year he chooses a theme for his home and goes above and beyond the call of decorating duty. This year the theme was skulls. I'm thinking that pictures don't do this scene justice. There are literally 100's of skulls.

Can you believe all of the work this must have taken?? I now feel quite compelled to travel back to St. Helena next year to see what the theme for 2010 will be.

Since I haven't blogged in awhile, I want to post a few items that are from times past. Forgive me for looking backwards!

Fall in Utah is seriously the best. The colors are amazing and the temperatures are perfect.

Just when I didn't think a Fall day could get better, I came around a corner and saw:

That's right. A whole family of wild turkeys. It was so exciting! I think they are so cute. They couldn't exactly figure out how to get out of my way so I was parked and so were they for about 5 minutes. I'll be looking for the gang in the Spring.

PS - Did you know that a group of turkeys is called a rafter????? See how educational my blog is????

Lazy Busy

I can't believe it's been 4 months since I blogged! I'm going to attempt to catch up and then be more consistent. We'll see how I do! The best laid plans....

Tye recently read a book called "Rich Dad Poor Dad" and he says it's maybe a life-changer. One phrase that is used in the book is "Lazy Busy". It essentially means that really busy people use their crazy schedules as a reason to avoid a variety of tasks (or even fun things). We are so busy that when we finally get a moment of unscheduled time, we tend to use it unproductive ways.

My lack of blogging illustrates this perfectly. I'm so busy that I'm entitled to lounge around lazily at night instead of accomplishing things that - on some level - I would like to be doing. Thus, Lazy Busy.

So, I'm going to attempt to do away with this quality. I don't want to be Lazy Busy.

A Walk in the Park

Tye and I decided to take Dylan to the park for a little scooter riding. Not bad that this is the backdrop for our park. I love this view!

We took Dylan's new cousins (Carol's 3 kids, Canyon, Kedrick and Tacie). The weather was perfect and some good male bonding occured. I got to bond with Tacie who - instead of bringing her scooter - brought her stroller. So so so cute.......

Little Shop of Horrors

Some of the girls in our family had a lunch day which by some freaky coincidence also happened to include shopping.

We always have a fun time browsing through Z Gallerie. This year we loved their Halloween display. I mean really - who wouldn't love a dead bride and groom as part of their Halloween decor. And this was only 1 portion of a really great scene.

Well not everyone loved the Halloween display as much as the grown-ups. Brent (my sister Leslie's 4 year old) and Tacie (my sister Carol's 3 1/2 year old) were completely terrorized and had to hide behind one of the display beds for protection. I had to document the fear.

The image of their little scared faces made me laugh the rest of the day. Poor kids. Giving their Aunt a comedic moment all at their expense!

Reap What You Sow

In our family, almost everyone likes to work in the yard, especially when it comes to flowers. My 3 year old niece, Tacie, loves to go to the plant store with her family. My sister, Leslie, installed an entire new yard this summer - an enormous undertaking to be sure. I can even name extended family that has the yard love affair.
Since this was my first year in this house, I wasn't sure how my efforts would turn out. I worked in my flower bed almost every day this entire summer. I was unsure about the soil and light but my first flower bed turned out great. I'm glad I documented it because the frost is coming and before long, it will be gone.

I can't wait for next Spring when I can start working again. It's so therapeutic!

Working Dog

This is Beijing - the 10 year old Shih Tzu previously mentioned.

He goes to work everyday which is a very tiring life. It was all he could do to keep his eyes open for his photo shoot.

You wouldn't know it but he's quite a guard dog even though he only has 2 teeth. He takes his job very seriously in between naps.

This is Dylan Kirk Davis. He visits us every Wednesday and every other weekend. He's 5 and is so lucky because his birthday is the 4th of July. He loves to crack himself up with jokes that usually involve mentioning one body part or another. Right now, eyeballs seem to be his favorite.......

Here we are! The Davis Couple. Tye, the CPA, and me, a girl who is still trying to find herself. We were married on April 26, 2008 in Maui, Hawaii at The (very dreamy) Grand Wailea Hotel. We live in Provo, Utah with our 10 year old Shih Tzu, Beijing, and Tye's 5 year old son, Dylan.
